Starwood Credit CardThere seems to be any number of credit cards out there offering free flights to destinations all over the world. However, what about the other part of the vacation - your hotel.Starwood Resorts and Hotels have now joined forces with American Express to offer a card that allows you to save points towards both free hotel stays and also free flights. Earning StarpointsYou can get a big boost to your Starpoints balance with a bonus 4,000 points with your first purchase on your card. You can then earn an additional 1,000 bonus points when you use your card to pay for a stay at a Starwood hotel or resort. You can continue to earn 500 bonus points for each additional stay in your first 12 months of card membership. You can also earn 1 point for every dollar that you spend on your card. This rises to 3 points per dollar spent at Starwood hotels. You can earn even more bonus points if you choose to redeem you Starpoints with a major airline. This converts them into frequent flyer miles to gain you free flights to numerous destinations. When you transfer 20,000 points to miles, you will receive a bonus 5,000 miles. Redeeming StarpointsThe points you earn on your card can be redeemed at over 850 hotels worldwide. This includes a number of high end brands such as Westin, Sheraton and W Hotels.Free nights can start as low as 2,000 points and there are no blackout dates There is a special introductory interest rate of just 2.9% on purchases for 6 months. You can also transfer balances at the reduced rate when you make those transfers with your application. Unlike with many cards, you won't be charged a fee for these initial balance transfers. There is no annual fee for the first year of this card. For subsequent years there will be a small fee of $30.
Summary Table
Credit Masters ReviewThis card offers some great travel rewards with the added flexibility of being able to transfer your points to a wide number of airline frequent flyer programs. You can earn enough miles for free hotel stays fairly quickly. Of course, if you want to stay somewhere for a week or longer the point requirements will soon mount up. Also, the more expensive the hotel is, the more miles you will need for a free night. This can, though, be a great way to get free weekends away in some nice hotels worldwide. Whilst the introductory APRs aren't super low, the interest rates are still fairly comparable with other cards offering similar rewards, such as airline cards. The annual fee on this card is lower than for many, though, and it is also free for that first year. Application |
